Freshwater invertebrates have a profound impact on the structure and function of freshwater ecosystems and are commonly used as bio-indicators. In BIOL4504, we sample and identify benthic macro-invertebrates commonly found in the Ottawa region.

Herpetology is the study of amphibians and reptiles. These two classes of animals make up more than a quarter of all vertebrate species. In BIOL 4502, we explore the ecology, physiology, and behaviour of reptiles and amphibians with an emphasis on local and northern species.

Field Course: Turtles: Ecology, Behaviour & Conservation |
This course is offered through the OUPFB program. It is a two week long intensive field course in which we apply common field techniques to study wild turtles. Although this course focuses on turtles, the skills and concepts covered are directly transferable to other groups of animals.
