If you are thinking of contacting me for an honors thesis, please read the following:
I am an instructor, not a professor.
My primary responsibility as an instructor is to develop and teach undergraduate courses so I do not have a research lab.
I nonetheless do a bit of research.
I truly enjoy doing research and I am usually involved in a few collaborative projects. I am currently working with colleagues at Carleton and in other institutions on projects on the behaviour and conservation of turtles.
Do I supervise honors students? Yes but...
I may accept one or two honors students per year but because I have limited resources, most projects will either involve the analysis of existing data or the collection of data from the literature. I may be able to co-supervise field based projects depending on availability of funds and equipment.
What are my expectations?
I expect honors students to be motivated and genuinely interested in my field of research (see some of my publications for examples). I do not select students solely based on GPA but I will only consider students that have achieved at least a B+ in courses relevant to my field of research (e.g. ecology, animal behaviour, conservation biology). I also expect students to have completed BIOL 3604 (analysis of ecological relationships) or an equivalent analysis course.
Still interested?
